From our friends at the Side by Side Brain Injury Clubhouse:

Since her head injury Tammy has not been able to keep a job.  The attractive, 28-year-old woman has worked in shoe sales and chld care but is always fired after a few days on the job because of her lack of ability to show up on time, keep up with her assignments and adapt when new things come along.

Her time at Side by Side Brain Injury Clubhouse is useful as we note the things that are hardest for her and then explore with our vocational counselor ways that she can cope with the challenges of her short term memory loss and other challenges.  Working in our Kitchen Unit has given her a sense of belonging and a clear understanding of the need to actually follow the words and instructions on recipe.

Tammy is learning how to be less creative in adding extra spices in her cooking, is encourage to look at the end results of her efforts.  When her work is being observed by our Kitchen Unit coordinator, the vocational counselor and the kitchen crew, Tammy receives plenty of feed-back about her work methods and results.

Being successful at the Clubhouse will be the way she gradually gets back into the workforce and starts to earn some added income in order to help her care for herself and her elderly grandmother

A parent of a three-year-old called to request for short-term assistancee to pay for child care.  She had a few weeks left to complete job training.  The family member who was assisting in caring for her child was unable to continue to assist her.

She was in jeopardy of dropping out of school because of a lack of child care.  She already had a job lined up when she completed the training.  Quality Care for Children was able to assist her for four weeks.  Happily, the parent was able to complete her training and then continue to pay for child care on her own.
