| The Future of Garbage Collection in DeKalb County
Sanitation Survey
DeKalb County's Sanitation Division provides two (2) regular trash pickups
and collects recyclables and yard waste one (1) day each week for residential customers
in unincorporated DeKalb County. This service is currently paid through a $265
Sanitation Enterprise Fund user fee placed on each residential household property
tax bill in unincorporated DeKalb. This fee was last changed in 2006.
Due to higher maintenance, equipment and other operating costs,
the County is debating an increase in user fees versus reducing service frequency
to balance the Sanitation Enterprise Fund. Currently, Sanitation is operating at a loss.
In order to understand how customers feel about these potential changes, the DeKalb Sanitation Division will hold Listening Meetings through the first week of February 2013. Cities using services provided by DeKalb Sanitation will be addressed through a separate outreach effort.
