2015 CIP Projects

dekalb fire station 3.jpgDeKalb County Fire Station No. 3

Constructed a single story fire station design, approximately 11,000 sq. ft., consisting of three bays, which meets City of Avondale and State of Georgia Historical Preservation Office design criteria.

The new facility will improve emergency response times, provide better living and work conditions for Fire Rescue Services personnel and provide more services for the local community.

Renovation Cost - $2,600,000

Completed – November 9, 2015

 

IT Data Center.jpgDeKalb County IT Data Center

The project involved the renovation of approximately 6,000 square foot of conditioned space at 1950 W. Exchange Place for the I.T. Data Center, UPS Room and office space for the Data Center Support Staff.

The network equipment relocation and installation was completed over multiple weekends with minimal down time for county department users and systems.

Renovation Cost - $970,000

Family Protection Center.jpgDeKalb County Family Protection Center

The Family Protection Center (FPC) is a collaboration of several private non-profit and governmental agencies with strong commitments to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, crimes against children and elder abuse.

The project involved the 1st Floor renovation of the county owned facility, located at 1950 West Exchange Place, in order to provide approximately 9,000 square foot of conditioned space for the Family Protection Center (FPC).

Renovation Cost - $770,000

traffic court 2.jpgDeKalb County State Court Traffic Division (Recorders Court) Renovation Project

Constructed two (2) additional courtrooms, enhanced and renovated two (2) existing courtrooms, and renovated all other areas of the Courts administrative support facility in order to enhance public access for payment, provide a prisoner detention area, and upgrade all administrative operations areas.

Work also included the renovation of approximately 8,000 SF at the 1st Floor of the B. Burgess Public Safety Building for the Warrant Clerks and the construction of the Warrant Payment Windows .

Renovation Cost - $2,000,000

magistrate court 1.jpgDeKalb County Magistrate Court Renovation Project

Renovated the existing Magistrate Court Building (Criminal Division) located within the 3630 Camp Circle Magistrate Court Building.

Renovation included two (2) existing courtrooms and all other areas of the Court’s administrative support facility in order to enhance public access for court hearings. A prisoner detention area was also constructed and all administrative operations areas were upgraded.

The total work completed modernized and efficiently reconfigured approximate 8,662 SF of interior office tenant and courtroom space.

Renovation Cost - $1,600,000

decatur library 1.jpgDeKalb County Decatur Library Parking Deck Improvements

The Decatur Library Parking Deck had existing conditions in which the connection between double tee joists were never made or have failed. The work included repairs to thirteen (13) joists in order to avoid compromising the diaphragm of the deck and to insure that the deck continues to resist a lateral load event.

Renovation Cost - $40,000

sdsc.jpgSouth DeKalb Senior and Community Center

Constructed  with the needs of active senior citizens in mind, this 10,000-plus sq. ft. facility affords the seniors of South DeKalb County a highly anticipated place that they can proudly call their own.  The energy efficient design and shape of the structure is such that it visually complements the architectural style of the recently opened Candler Road Library located just next door.

This new senior center is an attractive, sustainable, and technologically advanced facility.  Recently opened, it is already a part of the planned new development taking place along the Candler Road corridor.  In addition to offering a convenient and accessible facility for seniors to gather, relax, visit, exercise, dance, play and be entertained, the center also provides a full service kitchen, a dining area for some 200 guests, auditorium seating and stage, walking paths and areas to garden.

Construction Cost - $4.1 million

kittredge park.jpgDeKalb County Kittredge Park Improvements

Site development  of 8.35 acres to improve park ADA accessibility , landscape and sediment control .

The scope of work consist of a new porous concrete ADA parking area,  crushed concrete walking trails, prefabricated pedestrian bridge, sports field, play field and site furnishings.

The improvement provides safe access to the park areas and additional recreational services for the local community.

Improvement  Cost - $550,000.00

exchange park.jpgDeKalb County Exchange Park Spray Pad

The Spray Pad Park  was built on a vacant lot adjacent to the Exchange Park Recreation Center located at 2775 Columbia Drive in Decatur.

The project involved the  construction of a new restroom and pump house building , new concrete pad with a sophisticated  water filtration system and surge tank,  computerized control of spray nozzles and water features , new shaded canopies, fenced and gated area of 8,000 square foot. The park provides recreational options for the department summer programs  for the community

Renovation Cost - $950,000.00

electric vehicle charging.jpg.pngElectric Vehicle Charging Stations

Electric vehicle charging stations were installed  at the Bobby Burgess Building and Memorial Drive Government Complex. 

Level II quick charging electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and associated parking stations are available for public use for any battery electric, plug-in hybrid and extended-range vehicles.

Total Cost - $30,000

Completed – July 2015

The project involved the renovation of approximately 700 square foot of 1st floor space at 1300 Commerce Drive, Decatur, GA for the County mail room operation. 

This operation was relocated from the Callaway Building in to more efficient and productive work space. Calloway Building has to be vacated before April 2015.   

Total Cost - $20,000
