Kendric Smith is the Supervising Attorney over the Law Department’s Public Safety Group. Mr. Smith specializes in litigation involving Watershed, Public Works, and Police. He is also a member of the Law Department’s Technology Committee. The majority of his cases consist of defending suits against the county and its employees involving flooding from storm water systems, sanitary sewer backups, and cases brought against police personnel alleging false arrest and excessive force.
A native of Meridian, Mississippi, Mr. Smith received his Juris Doctor degree (J.D.) from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1969 and was admitted to the Georgia bar in 1970, where he practiced with the Atlanta Legal Aid Society and the Georgia Legal Services in Gainesville and Athens. He also was an Assistant City Attorney and Senior Assistant City Attorney for the City of Atlanta from 1982 to 2005. While at the City of Atlanta Law Department, he concentrated on litigation and advice for the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs. He is a board member for the Atlanta Young Singers and has been a proud member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus for the past 45 years, performing with the ASO Chorus in Carnegie Hall and with the Berlin Philharmonic in Berlin on several occasions.
