Histology Internship at DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office
- Internship Requirements
- Able to commit to three days per week between 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Must complete a minimum of 200 hours over a 12-week period to qualify for course credit.
- Background check and drug screen may be required.
- Applicant Criteria
- Candidates should be seeking a Master of Biology, or a related field.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Excellent organization and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Drive.
- Knowledge of histology laboratory procedure.
- Internship Objectives
- Describe the structure and function of the four basic human tissue types.
- Correlate microscopic structure with tissue function.
- Demonstrate practical knowledge of tissue grossing, embedding, and basic staining.
- Interpret microscopic histologic imagery.
- Identify microscopic features associated with common pathologies.
- Display evidence-based decision making in a clinical setting.
- Assist with data entry, tracking, filing, and analysis.
