Histology Internship at DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office

  • Internship Requirements
    • Able to commit to three days per week between 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    • Must complete a minimum of 200 hours over a 12-week period to qualify for course credit.
    • Background check and drug screen may be required.
       
  • Applicant Criteria
    • Candidates should be seeking a Master of Biology, or a related field.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic.
    • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
    • Excellent organization and communication skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Drive.
    • Knowledge of histology laboratory procedure.
       
  • Internship Objectives
    • Describe the structure and function of the four basic human tissue types.
    • Correlate microscopic structure with tissue function.
    • Demonstrate practical knowledge of tissue grossing, embedding, and basic staining.
    • Interpret microscopic histologic imagery.
    • Identify microscopic features associated with common pathologies.
    • Display evidence-based decision making in a clinical setting.
    • Assist with data entry, tracking, filing, and analysis.
