Investigative Internship at the DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office
- Internship Requirements
- Able to commit to two to three days per week between 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Must complete a minimum of 180 hours over a 12-week period to qualify for course credit.
- Background check and drug screen may be required.
- Applicant Criteria
- Candidates should be seeking a Master of Criminal Justice, or a related field.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
- Knowledge of law enforcement and chain-of-custody procedure.
- Internship Objectives
- Aid investigators with scene and evidence processing on non-criminal cases.
- Work closely with police, fire, EMS, and hospital personnel to gather information to help determine cause and manner of death.
- Research emerging forensic science issues.
- Assist investigators with completing reports, issuing subpoenas, and decedent identification.
- Provide quality assurance checks to maximize the effectiveness of the medicolegal database.
- Assist with data entry, tracking, filing, analysis, and modeling.
