In 2014, DeKalb County adopted its first Economic Development Strategic Plan, a roadmap with numerous specific recommendations for the County to enhance growth, development, and job creation. The Plan recommended the creation of an Economic Development Incentives Policy to help attract and expand businesses in six target industries and related niches:
- Professional and Business Services
- Life Sciences
- Construction and Support Trades
- Advanced Manufacturing
On March 22, 2016 the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners approved an Economic Development Incentives Policy that will enable the administration to offer qualifying developments fee waivers and reductions for building permits, land development permits, and business licenses, as well as matching funds for water and sewer infrastructure improvements.
