
More Than 1,200 Jobseekers Participate in Event Hosted

On July 10, 2025, more than 1,200 jobseekers filled the Georgia Piedmont Technical College Conference Center for DeKalb County’s largest job fair to date. Hosted by CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, the event drew 1,885 pre-registered attendees and 312 walk-ins, demonstrating the urgency and determination of residents seeking meaningful employment.
“This level of turnout makes one thing very clear: people are ready to work, and they need opportunities now,” said CEO Cochran-Johnson. “In DeKalb County, we see you, we hear you, and we’re committed to opening doors.”
More than 113 interviews were conducted onsite, resulting in 11 immediate job offers. Hundreds of additional applicants are currently advancing through next steps, including assessments and background checks. Key County departments such as Roads & Drainage, Sanitation, and Information Technology are actively moving qualified candidates forward.
Department Highlights Include:
- Sanitation: 530 engagements, 30 interviews scheduled, skills testing set for July 28
- Roads & Drainage / Stormwater: 324 engagements, 30 interviews, 7 offers extended, 5 pending
- Watershed Management: 357 engagements, 10 interviews, 3 offers
- Finance: 259 engagements, 17 interviews, 1 offer
- Information Technology: 48 engagements, 26 interviews, 6 candidates moving forward
- Police, Fire, and Planning: Applications under review or routed to upcoming hiring events
The event featured leading employers including DeKalb County Government, Grady Health, Emory University, the DeKalb County Board of Health, and the U.S. Army. With more than 500 fully funded County roles available in public safety, finance, operations, and administration, the fair provided direct access to hiring managers, resume assistance, and real-time interviews.
Second Job Fair Announced for Overflow Applicants
Due to overwhelming demand, some attendees were unable to enter the venue. In response, Human Resources Director Benita Ransom has announced an invitation-only job fair for approximately 531 individuals who were turned away. Details will be announced in the coming days.
“This is just the beginning,” said CEO Cochran-Johnson. “We will continue creating pathways to employment that support families, strengthen our economy, and build a better DeKalb.”
