On Saturday, Nov. 19, DeKalb County Government will celebrate Thanksgiving Day 2022 by partnering with local faith leaders to distribute 5,000 boxes of 100 percent Georgia-grown fruits and vegetables, eggs, and chicken hindquarters. Residents will receive one 20-pound box of food that will include a dozen fresh eggs, and a 10-lb. bag of chicken hindquarters. Residents also will receive cookies, fruit juice and cereal especially for children.

Commissioner Robert Patrick, along with several of his Board of Commissioner colleagues, has teamed up with the DeKalb Library Foundation (DLF) to assist in continuing a popular and vital DeKalb County Public Library (DCPL) program. The Take Back the Internet Initiative is an effort to bridge the digital divide for DeKalb County citizens. This free mobile hotspot lending program began in 2017 with 75 mobile devices at 5 library locations to assist DeKalb residents without internet access.

DeKalb County Voter Registration and Elections (DeKalb VRE) announced advance voting and drop box locations for the upcoming Dec. 6, 2022 General Election runoff. Advance voting for the runoff will take place Nov. 23 through Dec. 2. With the Thanksgiving holiday, voters are encouraged to carefully review the hours and locations prior to heading to vote.

Commissioner Steve Bradshaw on Nov.15 introduced a resolution at the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners meeting requesting that the State of Georgia’s budget include funding to support the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) system annually.

In observance of Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, Nov. 24, sanitation collection service for residential customers will be based on a revised collection schedule. The Seminole Road Landfill, and Central and North Transfer Stations will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24, reopening on Friday, Nov. 25, during normal operating hours. The Customer Care call center and administration building will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday Nov. 25, reopening on Monday, Nov. 28, during normal operating hours.
