On Nov. 1, CEO Michael Thurmond’s proposal for one-time $1,500 retention bonuses for non-sworn frontline employees and $1,000 retention bonuses for regular non-sworn employees was unanimously approved by the Employee Relations & Public Safety Committee (ERPS). The proposal is scheduled to go to the full Board of Commissioners for a vote on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

In observance of Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 11, garbage, recyclable materials and yard trimmings collection for residential customers will be based on a normal collection schedule. The North Transfer Station will be open from 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11. The Central Transfer Station, Seminole Road Landfill, Customer Care call center and administration building will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11, reopening on Monday, Nov. 14, during normal operating hours.

In advance of the upcoming Veterans Day holiday, Commissioner Larry Johnson honored all veterans with a proclamation during a September Board of Commissioners’ meeting in support of National Association of Counties’ (NACo) Operation Green Light initiative. In addition, Commissioner Johnson acknowledged the sacrifices of Commissioners Jeff Rader and Stephen Bradshaw and believes specific recognition should be granted.

DeKalb County’s Hamilton Recreation Center will host a Parents Night Out and Kids’ Snack and Paint Party on Friday, Nov. 18, located at 3262 Chapel Street, Scottdale, Ga., from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The Parents Night Out program offers a safe, fun environment for children to spend an evening while parents enjoy a little time to themselves.
