Volunteers in Patrol


The Volunteers In Patrol (VIP) program is a non-confrontational neighborhood patrol program that the DeKalb County Police Department is kicking off as part of the Department's Interactive Community Policing strategy.


The new program is designed to:


  • Deter crime
  • Impact crime by having citizens patrol their own neighborhoods
  • Allow volunteers to report suspicious or criminal activity to Interactive Community Policing Officers (ICP) or 911 (if an emergency)
  • Improve the quality of life
  • Provide a safer environment for neighborhoods

Qualifications:


  • At least 21 years old
  • Must be a DeKalb County resident
  • Complete a successful Background Check
  • Possess a valid Georgia Driver's License
  • No Moving violations in the last two (2) years
  • No prior Felony convictions
  • No Misdemeanor convictions in the last five (5) years
  • No DUI convictions in last 10 years
  • Successfully complete all required training
  • Proof of Auto Insurance

If you are interested in joining the VIP program you must fill out an application and waiver form. Applications and waiver forms are available at all five (5) precincts.
