Thanks Mom & Dad Fund® License Plates

A new specialty license plate is available to Georgia drivers that will benefit aging programs and services throughout the state.  The new “Thanks Mom & Dad” license plate will directly benefit programs through grants from the Thanks Mom & Dad Fund®.  It costs a little more but helps in so many ways.

Before the new tags can be placed on vehicles, 1,000 tags must first be prepurchased.

HOW DOES THAT WORK

Caregiver Corner

According to the 2003 National Alliance for Caregiving/AARP National Caregiver Survey, at least 44.4 million adults provide the care that is so critical in helping friends and loved ones with debilitating illnesses remain in their homes and other community settings. It is estimated that 80 percent of all care received by older Americans is provided by family members - spouses, children, grandchildren and other relatives - people just like you. The Office of Senior Affairs supports you by providing this quarterly update about issues related to caregiving.

Medication Management

The Atlanta Regional Commission, Area Agency on Aging has formed a partnership with CVS Pharmacy and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution to develop and implement a "Vial of Life" program in the ten county Metropolitan Atlanta Area. The "Vial of Life" program is a medical emergency information program, which also includes medication education and brown bag reviews. The project will target seniors who attend the Mulitpurpose Senior Centers, Neighborhood Senior Centers, Senior Community Groups, and seniors receiving in-home services.

Steps to Healthy Aging

It's no secret that Americans are living longer than ever before. Today, 46 million Americans are over 60 years old.  Even with a large percentage of the nation's population reaching 60, a decline in health and quality of life with age is not inevitable.  Still, many older adults may not realize what a difference they can make in their health by choosing a healthy lifestyle.  There are some reasons to lead a healthy lifestyle that you may not have considered.
