DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson in partnership with 100 Black Men of DeKalb will host a Youth Violence Prevention Rally & Summit Monday, June 27, at 6:00 p.m. in the gymnasium at the Intergenerational Center at Exchange Park.
Commissioner Johnson started his ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! campaign over five years ago to focus on a comprehensive approach to crime prevention. This approach includes involving and working alongside the youth. The rally & summit are designed to bring together the community and remind our youth that they are loved ranging from law enforcement to our community-based organizations. The event will focus on providing the youth, their parents, and the community with tools for conflict resolution instead of resorting to violence.
The panel for this summit will consist of representatives from 100 Black Men of DeKalb, Pastor Marlin Harris of New Life Church, Chief Ramos of the Dekalb County Police Department, Orrin “Checkmate” Hudson, Chris 180 (special focus on Adverse Child Experiences), and Juvenile Court. Resources from Chris 180, the DeKalb Community Service Board, and Stand, Inc.
“Youth violence is becoming a significant issue in our community,” said Commissioner Larry Johnson. “As a community, we must work together with the youth to let them know that violence is preventable, but most importantly we love them and need them here. They are the future!”
