Crews Complete Successful Test of Water Main in Tucker/Northlake Area

DECATUR, Ga.—During a preliminary test on Feb. 24, the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management (DWM) successfully isolated a section of a 48-inch transmission water main which runs along Henderson Mill Road.

DWM cut off the water supply to this section during the test to determine how customers served by the more than 40-year-old pipe may be impacted during upcoming repairs. This section remains closed and isolated from the remainder of the water distribution system.

DWM found no significant water pressure variations within the water distribution system, including water pressure to residential and commercial customers. A redundant 30-inch water main provides continuous water service while this section of water transmission main remains isolated and out of service.

As a result of the successful preliminary testing, repairs will be scheduled within two to three weeks, but preparation work, including excavation of the water main, will begin as soon as possible.

Other activities related to the repair include installing a valve to drain the main, draining the main and replacement of the leaking sleeve fitting. Any road closures will be announced before the repairs begin.
