DECATUR, GA. — DeKalb County is celebrating Older Americans Month this May with programs and activities planned by DeKalb County Public Library; Office of Aging; Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs; Lou Walker Senior Center; Central Senior Center and Decatur Active Living.

This year’s theme, “Engage at Every Age,” emphasizes that citizens are never too old to take part in activities that can enrich their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. It also celebrates the many ways older adults make a difference in their communities by working, volunteering, mentoring, learning, leading and engaging, enriching their communities and sharing wisdom with future generations.

Older Americans Month in DeKalb will kick off with Senior Olympics on Wednesday, May 2, 10 a.m., at Exchange Recreation Center, 2771 Columbia Drive in Decatur.

The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners will recognize DeKalb seniors with a proclamation on Tuesday, May 8, at 9 a.m. at the Manuel Maloof Auditorium, 1300 Commerce Drive in Decatur.
