DeKalb County Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson will host a special homeowners association webinar for District 7 residents to provide valuable information on best practices for running an association.

The DeKalb County District 7 Homeowners Association (HOA) Town Hall will occur Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020, at 6 p.m., and will feature county, real estate and HOA experts who will share tips on how to improve communities as well as information on how to form a new HOA.

“This event is for both HOA members and non-members,” said Commissioner Cochran-Johnson. “It’s important for residents to combine their efforts in enriching their communities and to expand their knowledge of ownership rights and resource management.”

Cohosted by Lance Hammonds, chair of The Rockbridge Coalition, the town hall will give insight into the importance of HOAs and how they foster alliances to assist in the creation of diverse, thriving communities and businesses.

“Homeowners associations assist in preserving the quality of life for communities,” said Hammonds. “This town hall will be beneficial to anyone wanting to form an association in their neighborhood. It will also help current associations improve their efforts to be as effective as possible.”

Pertinent information will be given on the role of the County’s Beautification Unit, code compliance, and how to report violations and eliminate blight.

Additionally, public safety and community policing will be discussed, including how to form a neighborhood watch to reduce crime and improve relations between the police and the communities they serve.

Shandron Pemberton, president and CEO of POSolutions Inc., will provide information on the services HOAs provide, the role they play in the community, and how to establish an HOA.

Presentations will be made by Major Kenric Banks (DeKalb County Police Department, East Precinct), Ricky Crockett (DeKalb County Sanitation, Beautification Unit), Lance Hammonds (The Rockbridge Coalition), Tim Hardy (DeKalb County Code Compliance Administration), Tracy Hutchinson (DeKalb County Sanitation Division and Beautification Unit), Officer Keith D. Tyson (DeKalb County Police Department, South Precinct) and Matthew C. Williams (DeKalb County Planning and Sustainability).
