Independent analysis to evaluate power outage, boil water advisory response
DECATUR, Ga. – DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond has authorized an after action review to evaluate the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management’s (DWM) response after the Sept. 13 power outage at the Scott Candler Water Treatment Plant. A primary focus of the analysis will be the evaluation of power generating redundancies at the Scott Candler Water Treatment Plant and other county facilities.
“I am committed to making sure our infrastructure is protected and maintained in a manner that will ensure quality service to the citizens of DeKalb County,” said CEO Thurmond.
A boil water advisory was issued after heavy thunderstorms affecting Scott Candler Water Treatment Plant in north DeKalb County led to power outages overnight Sept. 13, and early Sept. 14. The countywide boil water advisory was lifted two days after the water treatment facility experienced power disruption.
The review will be an independent factual analysis of DWM’s protocols, standard operating procedures and training. Findings will be shared with DeKalb County Board of Commissioners and the public, and used to identify strengths, weaknesses and areas for improvements.
