DeKalb County urges residents to use caution when traveling and spending time outdoors in the coming days as winter weather is expected to impact the region. Snow and dangerously cold winds are anticipated late Saturday afternoon and continuing through Sunday morning. Below-zero wind chills are expected across much of north Georgia including DeKalb County Saturday night and Sunday morning.

DeKalb County parks and libraries will be closed Saturday and Sunday. Recreation center programming is also cancelled during this period.

County leadership is coordinating across departments and with state and regional partners to ensure public safety, infrastructure readiness, and continuity of essential services.

Residents are reminded to use caution when utilizing alternative heat sources. Improper use can lead to dangerous exposure to carbon monoxide.

During winter weather events, DeKalb County urges residents to remember the 4 P’s:

  • PEOPLE: Ensure family members’ warmth, check on elderly family or neighbors that may need extra blankets, winterizing their homes or a warm place to stay.
  • PETS:  Bring pets inside at night to keep them healthy and safe.
  • PLANTS:  Cover plants to keep them warm at night or bring them inside so they can flourish.
  • PIPES:  Cover exposed pipes to prevent freezing and breaks.

DeKalb County will continue to monitor conditions and provide regular public updates as the storm progresses.
