DECATUR, Ga. – With a focus on education, advocacy and proactive solutions to combat what may be America’s worst drug crisis, DeKalb Commissioner Larry Johnson and STAND Inc. Executive Director Charles Sperling are hosting the third annual National Opioid Summit.

Community stakeholders, youth, policymakers and citizens are invited to attend the Opioid Summit 3.0, which will be held at the Porter Sanford III Performing Arts and Community Center, located at 3181 Rainbow Drive, Decatur, GA 30034, on May 2, 2019, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Opioids are a class of drugs that include the illegal drug heroin, synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, and pain relievers available legally by prescription, such as oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, morphine, and many others.

“We are committed to confronting the unprecedented crisis by collaborating, educating and increasing awareness to this epidemic,” Commissioner Johnson said. “We must help our communities and families have the correct resources and connections to deal with this issue, if necessary.”

The event, which will feature components specifically designed for youth, will also focus on the preservation of families with education and prevention as keys to ensuring healthy generations.
