Detour Routes Announced to Avoid Damaged Section of I-20 Westbound in DeKalb County

DECATUR, Ga.— Georgia Department of Transportation has announced detour routes after the closure of Interstate I-20 Westbound, between Candler and Gresham roads, due to buckling in the road.

I-285 has been approved as the primary detour with the following alternate routes:

  • I-285 South/West to I-75 North
  • I-285 North to Glenwood Road Westbound, to I-20 Westbound
  • Covington Highway Westbound, to Memorial Drive Westbound, to South Howard Street Southbound, to Glenwood Road Westbound, to I-20 Westbound

At this time, there is no estimated time when the damaged section of I-20 will be reopened.

Motorists are urged to seek alternative routes until further notice.

I-20 westbound entrance ramps inside the Perimeter at Columbia Drive, Candler Road and Flat Shoals Road are closed.

The DeKalb County Police and Fire Rescue departments are on the scene as well as Georgia Department of Transportation which is assessing the situation.
