Hairston Park Groundbreaking set for July 7

DECATUR, Ga. – DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will hold an official groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation of the playground at Hairston Park on Friday, July 7, at 10 a.m. The ceremony will be held at 911 South Hairston Road, Stone Mountain, Ga.

In addition to the new playground, District 4 Commissioner Steve Bradshaw, Friends of Hairston Park and the DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs are planning other upgrades including, water fountains, picnic tables, grills, landscaping and a pavilion. In May, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners approved Commissioner Bradshaw’s request to add more than $140,000 in improvements to Hairston Park. These upgrades should be completed by fall 2017.

The public is invited to join park staff and county officials at the ceremony. Attendees will also learn more about the Friends of Hairston Park, upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.
