Operation Clean Sweep Clears Five Curb Miles Saturday

DECATUR, Ga.— Operation Clean Sweep targeted a five-mile stretch of Panola Road on March 18. Two crews cleared 24 tons of debris, and litter patrol collected 50 bags of loose litter weighing 780 pounds.

“This multi-departmental effort is yielding tremendous results, beautifying the roadway and improving roadway drainage,” said Director of Beautification Marcus Kellum. “Though we’re working through the major arterial roads, we encourage residents, organizations and businesses to get involved on their own streets with an organized cleanup or participation in an Adopt-a-Program.”

For information on Adopt-a-Programs or to organize a community cleanup, contact Keep DeKalb Beautiful at 404-294-2010 or kdb@dekalbcountyga.gov.

Saturday, March 25, crews will continue traveling north on Panola Road from Biffle Road to South Stone Mountain-Lithonia Road at Rockbridge Road. Motorists are advised to drive with caution around employees and equipment.

Operation Clean Sweep began March 11 and will continue each Saturday through August to clear grass, trash and debris from roadway drains and curbs, mow rights-of-way and remove litter. To date, crews have cleared more than 74 tons of debris from 17 miles of curbs.
