DECATUR, Ga. – The DeKalb County Sanitation Division will launch the Senior Center Recycling Program on Friday, May 19, at 11 a.m., at the Lou Walker Senior Center, 2538 Panola Road, Lithonia, GA 30058.

The partnership with Lou Walker Senior Center is part of a targeted recycling program that offers recycling at the county’s six senior centers. The program also allows seniors to sign up for recycling services at any affiliated senior center. DeKalb County is working to increase recycling in the county to 60 percent - or 105,000 households by 2020. Lou Walker Senior Center is working in partnership with the Sanitation Division to design a program that will encourage members of DeKalb County's senior centers to make recycling part of their everyday routines.

The DeKalb County Sanitation Division is committed to environmental sustainability, with the single-stream recycling program being a critical component of the division's environmental stewardship efforts. In March, the Sanitation Division also implemented a customized school recycling program in partnership with the DeKalb County School District and plans to expand the program to higher education institutions by the end of the year.

For more information on the single-stream recycling program, contact Anastasia Martin, communications and recycling outreach coordinator, at 404-294-2281 or amartin@dekalbcountyga.gov.
