An incident occurred earlier today at the Decatur Library, the main branch of DeKalb County Public Library, located at 215 Sycamore Street, Decatur, GA 30030.
According to the Decatur Police Department, officers responded to the library at approximately 5:10 p.m. on February 2 following reports of a shooting. Officers located an adult male inside the library suffering from a gunshot wound. The individual was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the individual who was injured, his family, and all those affected, including our library employees and patrons who were present and are understandably shaken by this incident,” said Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, CEO of DeKalb County.
The Decatur Library will be closed tomorrow. Updates regarding reopening will be shared as additional information becomes available.
The Decatur Police Department is handling the investigation. The DeKalb County Public Library is cooperating fully with law enforcement. All questions related to the investigation should be directed to the Decatur Police Department.
