DECATUR, Ga. – Beech Drive at Memorial Drive is expected to be closed approximately three weeks due to damage to a 36-inch water main.

Contractors installing fiber optic cables damaged the water main Tuesday afternoon, causing a large cave-in at the intersection of the two roads and significant damage to Beech Drive. The incident also caused a sanitary sewer overflow at a nearby manhole.

DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management crews are on the scene assessing the extent of the damage and mobilizing equipment to make repairs.

Residents in the area have been notified about the incident and no households are without water service.

Road closure signs are posted on Beech Drive and traffic cones are blocking a lane on Memorial Drive at the intersection.

Customers with questions regarding this road closure should contact the Department of Watershed Management at (770) 270-6243.
