Rebecca J. Dobras

Rebecca J. Dobras (she/her) joined the Law Department in October 2020 as a Senior Assistant County Attorney in the Public Safety Section, where she provides legal counsel to several county agencies and officials, including the DeKalb County Police and Fire Departments, as well as the DeKalb County courts, clerks of courts, and judges. Her practice focuses on litigation, representing these agencies in state and federal court.  She also provides the agencies with advisory opinions, assists with open record requests, and drafts legal documents.     

 

Prior to the joining the Law Department, Ms. Dobras served as an Assistant Attorney General for the Georgia Office of the Attorney General for seven years, where she was legal counsel for Georgia’s public safety agencies, including the Office of the Governor, the Georgia Department of Corrections, and the Georgia Department of Public Safety.  She represented the state agencies in state and federal court, including in the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, Supreme Court of Georgia, and the Georgia Court of Appeals. Prior to working at the Attorney General’s Office, Ms. Dobras served as a Staff Attorney for Fulton County Superior Court and as an associate attorney at a private law firm.  She earned her J.D. from the University of Georgia in 2009 and her B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia in 2006.  She is currently a member of Emory University’s Clarence Cooper Inn of Court. In her free time, Ms. Dobras enjoys running, hiking, camping, and rollerblading.
