Superior Court Clerks’ Association honors clerk

The Superior Court Clerks’ Association awarded Debra DeBerry, Clerk of Superior Court, DeKalb County with the prestigious ÈCLAT Award on February 22, 2022.   Barry Wilkes, former Clerk of Court in Liberty County and for whom the award is named, presented the honor to DeBerry at the Winter Conference held in Atlanta.  Wilkes stated that the decision was unanimous.

DeBerry received this award in part for her investment in digital innovation throughout the judicial system.  The presenter noted her investment “allowed Debra and her staff to work remotely and quickly implement a plan to continue offering many critical services…even while the courthouse was closed.”

The ÈCLAT Award is peer nominated and serves as a means for recognizing Clerks for Exceptional Commitment, Leadership, Accomplishment and Teamwork.  The statewide award elevates leadership and innovation that result in tangible improvements for clerks, the courts, or the judicial system.

One of DeBerry’s nominators wrote of her leadership, “Debra stood up to the task and continued to lead her staff through tough times.  I studied what Debra did for her office and used what I could for my own.  She doesn’t know, but not only did she help DeKalb County, she also helped many other counties as well.”

“This award is especially meaningful to me because it is recognition from my colleagues regarding my office’s commitment to technological innovation, community and especially the citizens of DeKalb County that we serve,” said Clerk DeBerry.
