Dr. Geoffrey Smith|Deputy Chief Medical Examiner

 

 

Dr. Geoffrey P. Smith received his medical degree from the University of Auckland School of Medicine, Auckland, New Zealand in 1984. He practiced Emergency Room and Family Medicine for seven years in New Zealand prior to studying pathology at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. His fellowship in Forensic Pathology was undertaken at the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office, Atlanta, Georgia.

After completing his post-graduate training in Anatomical and Forensic Pathology, Dr. Smith worked as an Associate Medical Examiner for the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office from 1995 to 1997. He assumed the position of Associate Medical Examiner for the State Medical Examiner’s Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation from 1997 to 2004 and again as Associate Medical Examiner for the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office from 2004 to 2012. After working part-time at the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office from 2007 to 2012, Dr. Smith was appointed Deputy Chief Medical Examiner for the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office in January 2013.
