Heavy Traffic Anticipated Next Week in DeKalb: Motorists advised to allow extra time for travel or use transit

DECATUR, Ga. – Heavy traffic is anticipated in DeKalb County next week due to the Interstate 85 bridge collapse and the end of Spring Break for DeKalb County School District.

Georgia Department of Transportation anticipates a 30 percent increase in traffic volume, and we predict even higher volumes on local streets as motorists search for alternative routes,” said Peggy Allen, director of Roads and Drainage. “We ask for patience, early starts and creative commuting, including carpooling and the use of transit.”

DeKalb County is working with its Georgia Department of Transportation counterparts to monitor and adjust traffic signal timing on corridors and streets affected by the bridge collapse detours.

For the latest information on detours, visit Georgia Department of Transportation’s website at www.dot.ga.gov.
