DeKalb County Fire Rescue Recruiting Unit

DeKalb County Fire Rescue has a dedicated recruiting unit to assist prospective candidates through the hiring process with the department. Recruitment serves as the point of contact to address any questions or concerns the candidate may have before and during the hiring process. The hiring process for the various responder career options with DeKalb County Fire Rescue are outlined in the document below.

DeKalb County Fire Rescue considers any of the following to be Automatic Disqualifiers for selection to the Recruit Firefighter position. This is a partial list and is not all inclusive. Each applicants background is reviewed and verified during the selection process:

  • Any felony convictions within 10 years
  • Non U.S. citizen
  • No High School Diploma/GED
  • Any convictions of domestic violence
  • Any illegal drug use within 12 months prior to date of application and/or hire
  • Any sale of illegal drugs
  • One or more DUI convictions within three years
  • No driver’s license
  • A driver’s license that is suspended, revoked or expired
  • More than five moving violations in the past three years
  • Intentionally falsifying, misrepresenting or omitting information from the employment application
  • Deliberately making inaccurate, misleading, false or fraudulent statements during the employment process
  • Any outstanding criminal charge pending adjudication
  • Dishonorable discharge
