Lanes Shifting on Covington Highway Westbound for I-285 Eastside Bridge Replacements Project
What's happening?
The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) will implement a traffic shift on Covington Highway/State Route (SR) 12/US 278 to continue construction activities on the Covington Highway bridge. Beginning at 11 p.m., Thursday October 6, crews will shift westbound traffic at Covington Highway over Interstate 285 (I-285) to the left. This traffic shift will be in place for approximately four months.
Why is it happening?
This lane shift will be in place to allow Georgia DOT contractors access to continue construction activities on the Covington Highway bridge including curb, gutter, drainage, and ramp work. The bridge is being widened and replaced in anticipation of the upcoming express lanes project.
How does this benefit me?
The I-285 Eastside Bridge Replacements project is one of the advanced Major Mobility Investment Program (MMIP) projects. The project is replacing the existing SR 12/US 278/Covington Highway, Redwing Circle, and Glenwood Road bridges over I-285 in DeKalb County in preparation for upcoming express lanes projects.
