We are unable to service walk-in customers requesting a records restriction or criminal history/background check after 3:00pm, if you need this report on the same day.

Police Records is Comprised of three (3) major components: Public Records, Criminal Records and Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC)/National Crime Information Center (NCIC).

Service/Document Descriptions

All services require a physical, current, and valid government issued photo ID.

Reports:

  • Police Incident/Accident Reports are available approximately three to five (3-5) business days after the occurrence.
  • Fire/EMS Reports are available approximately five (5) business days after the occurrence.
  • To obtain Incident Reports you must have a police report number: 
    1. By emailing us at DKPDPRecords@dekalbcountyga.gov
      • There is no charge for up to two (2) incident reports via email
      • Three (3) or more incident reports via email will cost $.25 per page.
    2. By mailing in your request
      • To request a report by mail, please send a request stating the case number and address where you would like the report mailed. 
      • Enclose a certified check or money order for $2.00 for each incident report being requested payable to: “DeKalb County Police Department”.
    3. By visiting Police Records to pick up a copy for $.25 per page.
  • To obtain Accident Reports you must have a police report number: 
    1. By going online to www.buycrash.com to purchase the report for a nominal fee.
      • Simply go to www.buycrash.com and you will be able to view, download and print your accident report.
    2. By mailing in your request: Motor Vehicle Accident Report Request Form.
      • To request an accident report by mail, please complete and include the accident request form above for each accident report being requested. On the form provide the address where you would like the report mailed. 
      • Enclose a certified check or money order for $5.00 for each accident report being requested payable to: “DeKalb County Police Department”.
    3. By visiting Police Records to pick up a copy for $5.00.

To obtain a background check/criminal history:

  1. You may contact us via email at CriminalHistoryCheck@dekalbcountyga.gov to request a background check.
    1. We will send you a form to fill out, which must be returned with payment, either a certified check or money order, for $10.00 or $20.00 depending on the background check requested.
    2. You must enclose a copy of your valid Government-issued ID card, passport or driver’s license with the form and payment.
  2. By walking in, you must arrive no later than 3:00pm in order to receive the report that same day.
  • Type:
    • Personal Use - $10.00
    • Immigration - $20.00
    • Visa - $20.00
    • Adoption - $20.00
    • Housing - $20.00
    • Employment - $20.00

To obtain Record Restrictions (formerly called Expungements):

  • O.C.G.A. §35-3-37 provides for the restriction of certain criminal history records for non-criminal justice purposes when approved by the prosecuting attorney. For arrests after July 1, 2013, there is no application process. You must contact the prosecutor to have your record restricted. For arrests prior to July 1, 2013, you are required to apply for restriction at the arresting agency. Records can assist in the following situations:
    • If the arrest was prior to July 1, 2013 and arrest was made by the DeKalb County Police Department.
    • Or the arrest was before 1996 and was made by the DeKalb Sheriff’s Office.
    • Record restrictions for arrests after 1996 are handled by the DeKalb Sheriff’s Office.
  1. You may contact us via email at CriminalHistoryCheck@dekalbcountyga.gov to request a record restriction.
    • Please fill out the below form, which must be returned with a certified check or money order for $25.00.
    • You must enclose a copy of your valid Government-issued ID card, passport or driver’s license with the form and payment.
