If your property was turned in with the category of evidence, items cannot be released unless the arresting officer/detective sends the Property Room an Authorization of Release Letter. For evidence firearms, you must present everything mentioned above in addition to the following:

Found property – Any found property received from an officer will be held for 90 days. All found property will require a written release from an officer. After 90 days, the property will be destroyed or auctioned pursuant to Georgia Law. Safekeeping Property – Safekeeping property will be held for 90 days from the date it was received. After 90 days the property will be disposed of or auctioned pursuant to Georgia Law. Evidence – Any evidence held by the Unit will require a written release to be returned to the owner. This release must come from the DeKalb County officers and/or detectives. The owners of this property must contact the DKPD officer directly in order to get a written release. |
