Permit Applications:
Individuals seeking permits must fill out one of the below DeKalb County Police Department Permits Unit Applications except those seeking firearm/gun permits. Please click on Permits Application or Canvassing Other Application for the appropriate document. A Permits Application must be submitted 48 hours prior to your appointment. If your application has not been received your appointment will be canceled. Please submit your application to DKPDPermitsTaxiWreck@dekalbcountyga.gov.
Required Identification:
There are NO exceptions and copies are NOT accepted. Social Security Cards are NOT accepted.
First Time Applicants (not Firearms) - you will need One Primary ID and One Secondary ID:
• Current Valid State-issued Driver’s License
• Current Valid State-issued ID Card
AND one of the following:
• U.S. Passport
• U.S. Military Card
• U.S. Birth Certificate
• Certificate of Naturalization
• Resident / Employment Authorization Card
Renewal ONLY - you will need one of the following:
• Current Valid State-issued Driver’s License
• Current Valid State-issued ID Card
Types of Permits Issued:
Regulated business permits for:
• Alcohol Sales Establishments:
(restaurants, nightclubs, package stores, etc.)
• Adult Entertainment Establishments:
a) entertainers/dancers
b) alcohol servers/bartenders
c) all other employees
Private parties where alcohol is being sold require a permit.
You are ineligible for an alcohol permit if any of the following apply to you:
- Felony conviction within the last 10 years
- Felony probation within the last 5 years
- Misdemeanor conviction involving moral turpitude within the last 10 years
- 2nd DUI conviction within 5 years of the first conviction
- Under 18 years of age.
Regulated business permits for:
• Carnival Operators
• Escort / Dating
• Pawn Shops
• Precious Metal Dealers / Employees
• Door-to-Door Sales
• Vehicle Immobilization (Booting)
To obtain an immobilization business or operator permit, you must have the following:
- Business License
- Permit application (white form obtained from the DeKalb Police Permits, Taxi, Wrecker Unit)
- Business application (white form obtained from the DeKalb Police Permits, Taxi, Wrecker Unit)
- Owner's identification (primary and secondary needed)
- Company fee schedule
- Body camera type
- Company certificate of insurance
- List of employees who will be booting
- List of all addresses in DeKalb where booting will take place
Firearm Permits require the following:
- Current valid State-issued driver’s License, current valid state-issued ID, or US Passport
- U.S. citizens born abroad and applicants who are naturalized U.S. citizens must provide a U.S. passport, certificate of naturalization, or resident alien card, in addition to their state-issued driver’s license or state-issued ID
- Probate Court Application and exactly $5.00 cash (no coins).
Miscellaneous Fingerprints require the following:
We provide fingerprinting for Firearm/Gun permits and manual fingerprints on cards for other miscellaneous reasons (employment purposes, job applications, private adoptions, etc.). We DO NOT provide fingerprinting for U.S. Immigration, passports, or for items pertaining to the Department of Human Resources (Adult Care, Child Care, State Adoptions, etc.). If you need manual prints on cards, you must supply your own cards.
- Current valid State-issued driver’s license, current valid state-issued ID, or US Passport
- The top portion of the card must be filled out by you or the company (business) for which you are getting fingerprints for.
- The card has to be accompanied by either the location's ORI number or you will need to bring in paperwork associated with what you are getting fingerprinted for.
For all manual prints, you must arrive at the Permits Office with your cards completed and checked in before 3:45 p.m.
NOTE: All Firearm/Gun Permits must be applied for at the DeKalb County Probate Court before arriving at the Permit Office. The Probate Application is located in Probate Court.

Q: Do you perform criminal background checks?
A: No. Police Records, located at Police Headquarters, processes criminal background checks. MAP
Q: What is the difference between a business license and an alcohol permit?
A: A business license is obtained from the Business License Unit in Decatur for the start-up and duration of a business. An alcohol permit is for persons working in an establishment serving alcohol and is obtained at the Permits Unit at 3630 Camp Circle, Decatur, GA 30032. MAP
Q: Where do I get a business license?
A: At the Business and Alcohol Licensing office located at 330 W. Ponce de Leon Avenue, Decatur, GA 30030. MAP
