DeKalb County Board of Commissioners 2024 State Legislative Agenda

Every year the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners develops a set of legislative priorities. These priorities are determined and approved by the Governing Authority. The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners transmits its legislative priorities to the DeKalb County Legislative Delegation for advancement through the Georgia General Assembly. 

Public Participation

The public has the opportunity to attend the Board of Commissioners' regular meetings. Regular meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Public hearings, where members of the public are invited to speak directly to the Board, are held during the regular Board of Commissioners meetings. Members of the public can also attend meetings of the five standing committees within the commission.

Public Works & Infrastructure (PWI) Committee

This page is reserved for information regarding the DeKalb Public Works & infrastructure (PWI)  Committee. PWI has the authority to handle all subjects regarding matters of countywide public works services and the effective provision of departments associated allocation of costs. All Committee information regarding the committee discussions, how to view and participate, and Staff contact are below;

Planning, Economic Development, and Community Services (PECS) Committee

This page is reserved for information regarding the DeKalb Finance, Planning, Economic, Development & Community Services (PECS) Committee. The PECS Committee will have the authority to review and recommend policy for all of the county’s planning functions; also, for the coordination of services to provide a robust multi-faceted community development program and provide oversight of the county’s economic development initiatives including review of the Intergovernmental Agreements.

Finance, Audit, & Budget (FAB) Committee

This page is reserved for information regarding the DeKalb Finance, Audit & Budget (FAB)Committee. The Committee is responsible for the review of the Chief Executive Officer’s proposed budget in accordance with the Organizational Act and makes recommendations on the budget and related policies prior to its final adoption by the Board of Commissioners. This Committee will also have the authority to review and recommend any items that affect revenues or expenditures of various subject areas.

Employee Relations &Public Safety (ERPS) Committee

This page is reserved for information regarding the DeKalb Employee Relations & public Safety (ERPS) Committee. ERPS has the authority to handle all subjects regarding best practices and policy formulation towards the maintenance of a fiscally sustainable and attractive system of benefits for all employees. The Committee shall review efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of countywide fire and rescue and emergency medical services.

County Operations (OPS) Committee

This page is reserved for information regarding the DeKalb County Operations (OPS) Committee. OPS has the authority to handle all subjects regarding matters of countywide support services and the effective provision of departments associated allocation of costs. All Committee information regarding the discussion in the OPS committee, including how to participate, and Staff contact are below;

Meeting Time/Location:

Committee of the Whole (COW)

The Committee of the Whole (COW) incorporates all commissioners and allows the Board to discuss issues brought forth by Board action, the presiding officer of the Commission, or presentations and proposals by the CEO's administration.

Meeting time/location: 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at 9:00 AM

Meetings

Meetings discussing the regular business of the county are typically held on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month and begin at 9:00 am in the Maloof Auditorium at 1300 Commerce Drive unless otherwise noted. All regular Board meetings are open to the public. All regular Board meetings are televised live on Channel 23. Commissioners also hold committee meetings, which are open to the public as well. There are currently five standing committees within the commission.
