The Lou Walker Senior Center proudly stands as DeKalb County’s inaugural multi-purpose, county-funded senior center, dedicated to fostering an active and vibrant lifestyle for individuals aged 55 and older. Additionally, it holds the distinguished honor of being the county’s first senior center to achieve national accreditation, reflecting its unwavering commitment to excellence and quality service.  LWSC is an energetic facility with the purpose drive and positive slogan “seniors don’t retire, but they refire”. Named after former DeKalb County’s 7th District Commissioner, Lou Walker, this 40,000 square foot facility was built in 2005 to meet the needs of seniors in the Lithonia/Stonecrest community.

Today, Lou Walker offers classes in the following four corridors of learning: Lifelong Learning, Land Fitness, Aquatics and Technology; encompassing a variety of activities and amenities which include a swimming pool, a gym, an on-site hair salon and barber shop, vegetable gardens, cooking classes and so much more.

In addition to membership intake, social workers at the Lou Walker Senior Center are available to assist with resource inquiries and provide individual counseling services on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from
