Paving and Street Ratings
Each year a Dekalb County roads rating engineering technician inspects approximately 2,280 miles of county roadway (consisting of more than 8,272 streets). The evaluation methodology is similar to that of the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). However, Dekalb County Roads & Drainage uses a 0 to 62 rating scale where a rating of “0” is the best condition of the roads and a rating of “62” is the worst condition of the roads.
The level of funding for resurfacing of roads is allocated through the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) that was implemented in 2017, and the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Local Maintenance Improvement Grant (LMIG) program.
Asphalt Patching: Roadway pavement failures require large patching. Severs Rutting, Alligator Cracking, Pavement Shoving and Severs Block cracking are common types of asphalt pavement failures that require large patching.
Pothole Repair: Pavement Scabbing is a very common type of pothole repaired on DeKalb County roads. Pavement Scabbing is the loss of one or more layers of asphalt in the roadway. Roads and Drainage is committed to repairing all potholes.
