Animal Crematory/Dead Animal Collection

Animal crematory
The Sanitation Division’s animal crematory accepts dead animals for cremation for a nominal fee. Payments can be made on-site via check or money order, and should be made payable to – DeKalb County Sanitation Division. Fees are based on the following schedule:

Animals up to 24 lbs. - $5
Animals from 25 – 100 lbs. - $10

The Division also collects dead animals from residents’ homes, county rights of way and roads. The following outlines the Division’s preparation and collection procedures for dead animals:

Residential collection
A special collection request must be submitted by calling the Sanitation Division’s customer service team at 404.294.2900 or emailing sanitation@dekalbcountyga.gov. Animals must be double bagged and placed curbside for collection, which will occur within 24 hours of the service request date. 

Residents will be billed a special collection assessment fee based on the following fee schedule:

Animals up to 24 lbs. - $5
Animals from 25 – 100 lbs. - $10

Payments can be mailed to the Sanitation Division’s administration building, 3720 Leroy Scott Drive, Decatur, GA 30032, referencing the collection address and “dead animal collection” in the check’s memo section. Checks should be made payable to – DeKalb County Sanitation Division. 

Collection on rights of way and roads/Roadkill
The Sanitation Division collects dead animals on county rights of way and roads. Residents should call 404.294.2900 or email sanitation@dekalbcountyga.gov to request collection, providing as much information as possible regarding the location of the dead animal, and the type of animal to be collected. Collection will occur within 48 hours of the service request date.

Landfill drop off
Animals over 100 lbs. can be transported to the Seminole Road Landfill. All necessary fees must be paid at the Landfill, and are based on the following fee schedule:

Securing and preparing the burial site at the Landfill - $200

Additional fees based on the animal’s weight: 

Up to 999 lbs. - $16.50

Over 1,000 lbs. - prorated at $33 per ton
